I had this idea to start a no bullshit unbiased blog about wine, food, bars restaurants and other godly pleasures after a recent trip to the Tamar Valley wine region in Tasmania, Australia. My experience with wine and “fine” foods has only been a recent one, lets say in the last 5 or so years. As a teenager if it wasn’t some overly sweet vodka concoction or some deep fried crap i didn’t want to know about it!
My first experience with wine, like many, was the sickly sweet variations of moscato marketed to women and teens not that I dislike all moscato. Once I started to explore the world of wine, “fine” foods and cheeses I quickly came to notice that like many other aspects of modern life it came down to the brand, variety, year and method of tasting. Also not to forget that if you dare deviate from the invisible law set by the “Wine and food Crowd”, watch out. I have had many a run in with the “wine and food crowd” at wineries and events, many an eyebrow raised at some of my comments and also actions on occasion.
At the end of the day, I like what I like and I don’t like what I don’t like no matter the amount of swishing, education or pallet cleansing, however I will try every thing once.
So to the original point of why I started this blog, I want to give you an unbiased opinion in laymans terms, I’m not going to discuss the how and why of wine but the end result. Does it taste good or not, along with the odd food, bar or restaurant review here and there.
Now I assume some of you reading this post are thinking, “but he doesn’t know what I like?”. And you are totally right, I have no idea! But in saying this I believe through my experience and, lets be frank, lack of experience, I can provide some insight from an every day guy about wine and food with out the cocky and sometimes pretentious nature that is usually associated with the so called “wine and food crowd”.
Happy wining and dining, TTC.
